According to journalist Rudy Garretti, Tottenham Hotspur chilled his interest in Brentford star Brian Mbeumo after learning that the player was firmly aiming for his move to Manchester United.
According to sources close to negotiations, the Spurs were monitoring Cameroon International this summer as an offensive strengthening possibility, but it is unlikely to pursue further trades due to players’ clear preferences.
Having been a Brentford standout performer for the past few seasons, Mbeumo has been attracting great interest following another productive campaign in the Premier League.
Tottenham wanted Mbeumo to address the goalscoring issue
The 25-year-old attacker scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, attracting the attention of top British clubs.
His versatility, ability to play on the frontline, consistency in both goals and assists, making him an attractive target for the top six clubs, and both Man United and Tottenham are seriously interested in signing him.
However, recent developments have led United to take the race’s lead for the 25-year-old’s signature.
Mbeumo is believed to be fully focused on his move to Old Trafford, informing his representatives that he would prefer to take part in the project of Reuben Amorim.
Mbuemo sets the view on Old Trafford Move
The players are willing to sacrifice their play in the Champions League next season to seal their moves towards Man United.
As new head coach Thomas Frank aims to rebuild his team ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, the Spurs will continue to explore other offensive options, but Mbeumo’s moves will be considered from the table unless there is a dramatic slow shift in the situation.
For Man United, the development puts them in pole position and secures one of the best attackers in the Premier League.
The Spurs may shift their attention to another target this summer, Antoine Cemento of Bournemouth.
