Atletico Madrid is reportedly stepping up the pursuit of Tottenham defender Christian Romero, and is currently considering including players in their contracts to make negotiations smoother.
As Diego Simeone is eager to strengthen his backline, Atletico is believed to have identified Romero as an important summer target.
Though talks have already begun behind the scenes, the two clubs remain far apart in terms of ratings.
Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy is known for driving hard bargains, and H is unlikely to be upset if there is a substantial offer on the table.
Spanish outlet Marca says Atletico is said to be open to offering Winger Rodrigo Riquelme as part of the package to fill that gap (via Sports Wensaw).
The 25-year-old Spaniard, who previously spent a short loan stint at Bournemouth, discovers that he has limited playing time this season and can be used as a make-up class to move forward with the deal.
Atletico blocked Riquelme’s January approach from both Aston Villa and Villarreal, but they may be willing to say goodbye to him if it helps to secure Romero’s signature.
Tottenham could lose one of the stars to Atletico
This potential swap could appeal to Tottenham, especially as it seeks to update its attack options heading towards a new campaign.
The Spurs can offer the opportunity to sign Riquelme from the Spanish giants, but they will prefer the opportunity to sign Conor Gallagher.
The only problem with Gallagher’s pursuit is that the players are happy in the Spanish capital and are not currently looking for a move from the club.
Along with Romero, Pedro Polo is also linked to his move from the Spurs with Manchester City, who is reportedly interested in signing Spanish international defender.
