Tottenham will be busy this summer looking to recover from a very poor season in the Premier League, but the fact that they have won the Europa League and qualified for the Champions League means things will be easier.

One of the things falling into this category is Cristian Romero, appointed to the La Liga Giants Atletico Madrid. The Argentine defender, selected as the man of the match in the final Europa League victory over Man United, was a key player for Tottenham since his arrival, but was expected to leave in the summer.

However, Tottenham doesn’t want to lose Romero, so he will make concrete efforts to maintain his service for at least another season.

Fabrizio Romano has provided updates on the status of his YouTube channel, confirming that Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is planning a consultation with Romero to persuade him to stay at the club.

“There have been no aggressive negotiations for Romero to extend his contract, but certainly Daniel Levy will do his best to keep him in the Spurs despite interest from Spain.”

Romero’s current deals expire in 2027, so there will be less than two years left at the start of July. Tottenham is eager to agree to the new terms as they do not need to make a decision to win cash from the Star Defender, but at this stage there is no guarantee that an agreement will be reached.

It remains to be seen whether Romero will leave Tottenham this summer, but if that were the case, there will be a big replacement.
