Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final, with Brennan Johnson scoring the only goal of the season.
The Spurs finally won the European title, defeating Man United in the process and completing a 17-year trophy wash.
After scoring the goal, Ange Postecoglou’s team showed Ruben Amorim’s excellent defensive performance against Man United Side.
Among the players who were impressive in Bilbao in the finals, centre-back Christian Romero was one of them.
He won the Man of the Match Award after the final.
Tottenham opens and leaves Christian Romero
According to Football Insider, Romero is reportedly planning to leave the club this summer despite playing a pivotal role in the recent Europa League final.
Tottenham has accepted Romero’s offer and is rated at around £50 million.
The reason behind the Spurs trying to offload the defender is because of his inconsistent shape with his injury issues.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke is providing the latest information on the future of the defender.
“There are players they’re watching and areas they want to enhance.” He told the soccer insider.
“The new centre-back will be one of the Spurs’ top priorities.
“Especially if they lose Christian Romero, who is likely to attract a lot of attention and go.
“I think it’s going to be a busy summer for Tottenham. Obviously, they have Champions League football and now they can see another set of targets.”
Postecoglou Wants Marc Guehi on Spurs
Romero’s departure will mark the end of a chapter that is important for Tottenham.
Eligibility for the Champions League next season will not only attract players to the club, but also provide a much-needed financial boost.
The Spurs are interested in the moves of Crystal Palace defender Mark Guech this summer, so Romero’s exit from the club appears to be a matter of time.
There’s no better way to finish his time at the club. Rather than winning a trophy and contributing directly to it.
