Tottenham Hotspur has a world-class stadium that costs £1 billion and has spent cashing over several new signatures over the years. However, they await their first trophy since 2008.

The Spurs also bring in large transfer fees for the massive stars and deal with some of Europe’s biggest clubs in the process, but who is the club’s record departure?

Let’s take a look at Tottenham Hotspur’s most expensive sales in history. With the help of news reports and Transfarmarkt, take a closer look at the top 10.

Here’s a detailed look at Spurs’ top 10 sales…

10

Robbie Keene

£19 million to Liverpool in 2008

Robbie Keene was the Spurs star and captain in 2008, so it was a real blow when Liverpool took him to Anfield for £19 million. The transfer fee may have been above £20 million, but I don’t think the Irishman has met the necessary add-ons.

Daniel Levy spoke publicly about Keene’s disappointment that he wanted to move, but six months later Keene returned to Tottenham on a permanent move after struggling to become a Merseyside regular.

9

Hyun Mai son

£20 million to LAFC in 2025

Tottenham icon Hyun Min’s son lifted the Spurs’ first trophy in 17 years following the club’s Europa League victory in 2025, but a few months later, South Korea left North London for the MLS.

The attackers set off for LAFC in a £20 million worth of deals, and his son scored 173 goals in 454 games for the Spurs, proven to be worth the £22 million penny that Tottenham spent in 2015.

8

Kieran Trippier

£20 million to Atletico Madrid, 2019

Kieran Trippier’s final match for Tottenham came at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitan Stadium in the 2019 Champions League final. That summer, after the Spurs sold him to Diego Simeone’s side for £20 million, it will become his new club home.

Trippier then became a La Liga winner and returned to the Premier League along with Newcastle United to help qualify for the Champions League.

7

Oliver Skip

£25 million to Leicester City in 2024

After passing through the academy and making more than 100 first-team appearances, midfielder Oliver Skip was sold by Spurs for a reported £25 million in 2024.

Leicester City was willing to pay a big payment for the skip after winning the promotion, and the players signed a five-year contract. For a player who never fully reached his potential at Tottenham, it wasn’t the worst deal in the world.

6

Stephen Bergwin

£26 million to Ajax, 2022

Tottenham signed Stephen Bergwyn in January 2020, hoping to further boost the highly exciting offensive lineup under Jose Mourinho.

However, the Dutch rarely started and were not the offensive threat the Spurs invested in.

5

Luka Modric

£30 million to Real Madrid in 2012

Lucamodric’s four-year performance at White Hartrain took Croatia International to the Bernabeu for £30 million in the summer of 2012.

The midfielder starred in Spain and even won the Barondoor in 2018. So the £30 million fee will probably be reflected as a bargain in Madrid.

4

Dimiter Berbatov

£30.75 million to Man Utd in 2008

Stylish striker Dimiter Berbatov has developed a great relationship with Robbie Keene from North London, with the former scoring 46 goals in 102 matches.

Despite Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United added Berbatov to their ranks in 2008.

3

Kyle Walker

£50 million to Man City in 2017

Kyle Walker became the world’s most expensive defender when he joined Manchester City from Tottenham for £50 million in 2017, and England International won everything under Pep Guardiola in Etihad.

Walker is undoubtedly the best right back in the UK ever, but at the time Tottenham was waiting for Kieran Trippier on the wings and seemed happy to win cash for him for such a large sum.

2

Gareth Bale

£85.3 million to Real Madrid, 2013

Garethbert starred in North London before continuing from Modric to Real Madrid in 2013. The international cost of Wales was more expensive than he paid Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, with the world record at the time at 100 million euros (£85.3 million).

Bale continues to earn 15 honors at the Bernabéu, including five Champions League titles. He scored 106 goals in 258 appearances for the Madrid shirt.

1

Harry Kane

£86.4 million to Bayern Munich in 2023

Tottenham’s record start to break the charts is record-breaking scorer Harry Kane, who brought in £86.4 million when he joined Bayern Munich in 2023.

The striker had been linked to the Spurs exit multiple times during his 13 years of spells as a North London expert, but it was the Bundesliga and Bayern who convinced him to leave Tottenham. Kane continues to score for fun in Germany, as expected.
