Tottenham Hotspur believe he is perfect for the Premier League and have joined the race to sign the “fantastic” midfielder.
Spurs consider signing new midfielder amid uncertainty over Bissouma
Yves Bissouma was widely expected to leave Tottenham during the summer transfer window due to a well-documented falling out with central midfielder Thomas Frank, but the Malian ultimately remained in N17 due to injury.
Bissouma has since managed to return to action, but was recently carried off on a stretcher after coming under heavy attack during Mali’s 4-1 win over Madagascar in a World Cup qualifier.
It remains to be seen whether the north Londoners will be able to offload the midfielder in the January transfer window, but given Joao Parinha’s excellent start, it doesn’t seem too likely that he will return to the team.
With an average SofaScore match rating of 7.21 in the Premier League, Parinha ranks as Spurs’ second-best player so far this season, suggesting there is no need to bring in a new defensive midfielder right away.
However, Caught Offside reports that Tottenham have joined the race for a central midfielder and are interested in FC Porto’s Victor Fromholt, who has also been targeted by Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion and Atletico Madrid.
The Lilywhites believe Fromholt’s energy and physical attributes are ideal for the Premier League, and with Porto open to offers, a move could be made in 2026, but any deal is likely to be expensive.
Competition for the midfielder’s signature has intensified following several scouting missions, with the Portuguese club aiming to fetch a transfer fee of around €50m to €60m (about £43m to £52m).
‘Great’ Froholt impresses for club and country
The Danish maestro, who is represented by the same agent as Frank, only arrived at FC Porto in the summer after joining from FC Copenhagen, but scout Jacek Kulig has been extremely impressed with how he has adapted to life in Portugal’s Liga.
The 19-year-old has not only turned heads at Porto, but has also impressed for Denmark during the current international break, scoring one goal and providing two assists against Belarus and Greece.
It’s still early days for Froholt, with the youngster yet to prove himself in Europe’s major leagues, but if he continues to develop at his current pace, Tottenham will no doubt consider a move in 2026.
