The struggle between Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham could increase as one of their players links with movements away from the club.
The Spurs are currently sitting in the lower half of the table, with the North London side closer to the relegation zone than the top six in the Premier League.
Christian Romero may be coming out of the club this season and beyond.
The Argentine defender had a tough season, dealing with injuries and moving him off the pitch due to a significant portion of the campaign.
With his contract currently still two years left, it may be correct when both Romero and the Spurs break up.
Journalist Sacha Tabolieri reports that the player has recently spoken with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, and the defender is keen to leave the club and join the La Liga Giants.
John Wenham told Tottenham News about the potential relocation of the defender.
“We couldn’t think of a club where Romero would be better suited.” Wenham said.
“From the Spurs’ perspective, I think it’s time for a clean break. For some reason, Romero’s days in Tottenham weren’t going as well as people wanted it for multiple reasons.
“He is one of our few world-class players, but I think this summer is a good time to move on from him, but the problem is that he has always paid £40 million to Romero.
“This should be a decent deal for Tottenham, but I hope Romero will leave forever.”
Will Christian Romero leave Tottenham?
However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is unlikely to make Romero cheaper.
The club reportedly cherishes him for around £75 million. Given Atletico’s financial strength, they may just be willing to achieve that price, especially after signing Julian Alvarez.
For Romero, joining a club like Atletico, known for his solid defense under Simeone, could rekindle his career.
His losses are big for the North London Club, but they will have to look for a market alternative to replace him.
Tottenham is tied to the movement of sports defender Osmanedio Mande to replace Romero.
Lionel Messi calls Romero “the best defender in the world.”
