Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign FC Porto’s attacking sensation Sam Agehowa.
Despite investing heavily to strengthen their attack in recent seasons, Tottenham still lack firepower in the final third. The north London club have not been able to address their striker problem and are considering signing a new number nine in the near future.
According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Spurs are considering a move for Sam Agehowa. Thomas Frank’s side have scouted him in the past and could press ahead with a move for the 21-year-old striker, who has enjoyed an impressive run at FC Porto.
The Spanish striker has gone from strength to strength since joining the Portuguese national team from Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2024. Due to his consistent performance, he has attracted attention from several top clubs.
O’Rourke in the sun
Speaking about Agehowa’s future on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said:
“Chelsea were very close to signing him several transfer windows ago before the player decided to stay.
“Newcastle then added him to their list in the summer window when they were considering potential replacements for Alexander Isak, before signing Nick Waltemaid.
“So I think he’s a top young player, a 21-year-old Spanish international. No wonder Tottenham and other big clubs in the Premier League are paying attention to him.”
“He’s a player with huge potential and if he continues to develop he could really develop into one of the best strikers in Europe. I think that’s why Premier League clubs are paying attention to him.”
“He has a release clause in his contract with Porto of around £86 million, which is a hefty price tag on his head.
“But if he continues to do what he’s doing and develops as a player and fulfills his potential, it would be a reasonable price for someone who wants to take him.
“Again[for Tottenham]the number nine is a bit of a problem for them in some respects. Solanke has had injury problems so far this season.
“Richarlison has obviously come on and done very well since then, but there continues to be speculation about his future.
“Porto will definitely be keen on him (Aguehowa) in the next few transfer windows, because I’m sure there will be interest.”
Tottenham keen to sign Agehowa
Tottenham are one of the clubs keen to sign him. The north London club are in desperate need of a quality No. 9 to help them take the next step. Despite paying a big fee to sign Dominic Solanke, the former Bournemouth star has failed to make an impact.
He has struggled to stay fit and has been sidelined since the 2-0 win over Manchester City in August. It was expected that he would be out for just a few weeks, but Solanke had to undergo surgery and will be sidelined for several months.
Apart from him, Randall Kolo Muani is yet to regain full fitness, while Richarlison has an injury-plagued history and has been linked with a move. As a result, Spurs are looking to sign a world-class striker during the winter period.
They are keen to add Sam Agehowa to their squad and are considering whether to sign the 21-year-old, who has a guaranteed release clause of £86m.
