Chelsea reportedly joined Liverpool and other major clubs due to the potential transfer of Crystal Palace Central midfielder Adam Wharton.
Catch off side This morning Wharton reported that it is expected to cost £100 million as it is attracting attention from Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Manchester United and Tottenham were also mentioned to us by sources, but we were given the clear impression that the most intense interest was coming from Liverpool, City and the Real.
Now, Ben Jacobs added Chelsea’s name to the mix this afternoon in an X post about Wharton’s future.
“Chelsea added Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton to their long-term target list,” Jacobs said.
“It’s a tough deal to do by Monday and the Palace plans to protect Wharton for at least another year, so nothing has gone ahead yet.”
Transfer to Adam Wharton to the Elite Club seems inevitable
Wharton shows himself to be a very exciting young talent in the palace, showing great intelligence and quality to the ball.
Chelsea will undoubtedly do well to add a 20-year-old to the already impressive roster of the best young talent in world football.
Still, I imagine things like Liverpool and the City might be considered a better bet for Wharton if they want to compete for the biggest trophies each season.
Can Wharton consider moving abroad?
It will also be interesting to see if England International could be tempted by overseas travel, as it is likely to have a significant role on this Madrid side as a long-term alternative to Toni Kruz and Luka Modric.
Wharton could join the teams of Bernabeu England stars Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander Arnold, and the Palace would probably look favorably to avoid selling another star player to a Premier League rival.
The Eagles lost Ebeki Eze to Arsenal this summer, but Mark Guech remains Liverpool’s best target.
