The Golden State Warriors’ $16 million decision could return to haunt the team next season.
After the second exit in the 2025 NBA playoffs, many were hoping that the Golden State Warriors would add plenty of new names to their roster.
Instead, the Warriors have not yet been added to the roster ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season. In fact, they parted ways with Kevon Rooney following a decade of stint.
Rooney has signed a two-year, $16 million contract to join the New Orleans Pelicans. Speaking of which, Tracy Jackson Davis of the Warriors had an interesting response to it.
In his 10 seasons with the dub, Rooney averaged 5.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per Warriors game.
His numbers didn’t jump from the box score, but Rooney took on the role of the locker room leader. This is clear from Jackson Davis having to say about Rune’s departure.
“We love Runes. The way he helped me was incredible. He’s a person, a player, the ultimate teammate, the person you want to love.
“There’s a lot I can thank him,” Jackson Davis said the game at X at 95.7.
Losing such a respectful player in the locker room is an amazing decision. As a result, the morale of other players on the roster could be hit, potentially harming the Warriors’ championship ambitions.
The main reason behind the Rooney exit was his limited minutes during the 2025 postseason. Veteran Center was featured in just 10.0 minutes per game in 12 games.
Rooney admitted that head coach Steve Kerr is frustrated because he prefers Quinten’s posts over him in the Warriors’ final year.
Coming to Jackson Davis, the 25-year-old had what he said after seeing dip in minutes per game in the 2024-25 NBA season.
“You have to wait for your turn. It’s s____. My rookie year has gotten more time than this year. You want to make sure you maintain the level head, but at the same time you know you can help. It’s difficult,” he said.
Jackson Davis statistics | 2023-24 season | 2024-25 Season |
point | 7.9 ppg | 6.6 ppg |
rebound | 5.0 rpg | 5.0 rpg |
assist | 1.2 APG | 1.7 APG |
Min | 16.6 mpg | 15.6 mpg |
The Warriors are expected to rely on reliance on upcoming seasons, so it will be interesting to see how that will affect Jackson Davis’ role on the roster.
