Tracy McGrady believes the Golden State Warriors have surprised everyone with the way they’ve started the season.
The Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, picking up their fourth win of the season and improving to 4-1 on the year.
Jonathan Kuminga has earned the trust of Steve Kerr to take the team’s starting role, and many of the star players are progressing well.
The Warriors had four players score 20 points or more in their last game, but Stephen Curry wasn’t one of them.
Curry cautioned that the rest of the Warriors need to step up for the veteran. And with their young stars shining, Tracy McGrady believes their team has a chance to accomplish something no one expected.
Tracy McGrady spoke about the Golden State Warriors’ win over the Los Angeles Clippers during NBC’s postgame panel.
McGrady admitted the Warriors were tough to start the season and believes they will be a title contender come April, even if they weren’t considered a favorite in the preseason.
“Golden State, watch out. We didn’t talk about them for a championship in the preseason. I’m talking about them. They’re going to sneak in there and be the favorites.”
Tracy McGrady is right, but to a certain extent. There wasn’t much talk of the Warriors being contenders, but that was due to the uncertainty surrounding their roster due to the Jonathan Kuminga situation.
Knowing what their roster would look like created expectations that the Warriors’ veteran core was capable of competing for a championship.
The Golden State Warriors have started the season very well. Their roster is going well and the players are coming together well.
The Warriors’ young players have stepped up in place of the veterans so far, regularly producing star-level performances to start the year.
The proper term is “start”, albeit a strong start. The Warriors need to make sure they maintain this level of effort for the rest of the season.
Their veteran players are great, but we know they won’t be able to compete at a high level for all 82 games this season because of their age.
