Washington Wizards rookie Tre Johnson continues to impress.
The Washington Wizards lost to the Charlotte Hornets, who have a rare winning record at 2-1, missing out on a valuable chance to surpass .500 for the first time since 2022.
However, for the Wizards, who are in a long-term game of accumulating and developing talent, this season has never been about winning or losing.
In the 2025 NBA Draft, the Wizards were disappointed in only being able to acquire the No. 6 pick in the lottery.
They ultimately selected Tre Johnson, who is likely to play a very important role in their future.

Tre Johnson is off the bench for the Wizards at the moment, but it may not be long before that changes.
Johnson has set a record for rookie starts in his early performances.
He played 29 minutes and showed that he is already a key player and is forcing his way into the rotation, whether he starts or not.
Johnson finished with 18 points on 6-14 shooting, but his shooting was inconsistent from beyond the arc, limiting him to 2-7 from the arc.
He also contributed 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block.
Johnson’s scoring has gradually improved. He scored 16 points in his NBA debut, 17 points in his second game, and 18 points against the Hornets.
CJ McCollum led the scoring with 24 points, and Alexandre Sarr, the No. 2 overall pick last season, scored 22 points.
LaMelo Ball contributed to the Hornets’ big win with 38 points, and rookie Con Kneppel also scored 20 points.
Early signs are positive for Tre Johnson, with just one note. It was plus or minus 16. That’s something the coaching staff has to work on.
Overall, the Wizards will be happy with his impact. Johnson shows the Wizards they are bringing in a player who can contribute right away.
Johnson will need some overall development from the Wizards to gain national attention, but based on his play, he could very well become an All-Star in the future if he can build on an already very solid foundation.
