Tray Young’s future with the Atlanta Hawks has been the subject of debate for the past few days.
The 26-year-old was eligible to sign a maximum contract with the Atlanta Hawks last week, but has yet to agree to a deal with the franchise.
ESPN’s Marc Spears reported that Trae Young was disappointed that no contract was offered.
He was caught up in discussions to bring free agents like Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard to his team. But despite his efforts, the Hawks’ new front office has yet to make a decision on the deal they want to offer the franchise star.
The four-time All-Star is his fourth year on his five-year, $215 million contract, with player options after the 2025-26 season.
If the Hawks delayed offering him a deal and Young chose to join a free agency, there are two stars where he is likely to be paired.
The LA Lakers could potentially enter the post during the LeBron James era after the 2025-26 season.
This means James can leave the Lakers at the end of next season and add another star player to the team, leaving space behind.
They also make decisions about the future of Austin Reeves, but if Young is available in free agency, they can decide to leave the undrafted players.
There are problems with him fitting alongside Luka Donsic, but the Slovenians have previously played with quality point guards like Kyrie Irving and Jalen Branson.
Young is certainly the most shocking when he has the ball, but with Don Sic on his team, the All-NBA choice at once could affect the game in other ways.
He is a talented shooter and with all the attention Don Sic attracted, Young was able to use it for his profit to increase his score.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been one of the best teams in the Western Conference over the past two seasons.
They have made their second consecutive Western Conference Finals, but it appears there is a lack of quality to move forward.
Anthony Edwards did his best for his team, but it’s time for the Timberwolves to see another option with him. It might be young.

Edwards can play alongside point guards and Young is one of the best passersby in the league, so pairing them together makes the Timberwolves difficult aspect to defeat.
The team has several quality centers.
| season | assist |
| 2024-25 | 11.6 |
| 2023-24 | 10.8 |
| 2022-23 | 10.2 |
His ability to throw Robs is also well known, and Young might be the player the Timberwolves need, as players like Edwards and Naz Reid can do well around the edges.
But they are on the side where there is not much space in the cap space and if they bring in someone like the younger ones, they need them to trade one or perhaps two players of their players.
