Victor Wenbanyama has taken a leap forward and there seems to be no stopping him at the moment.
For the past two years, the San Antonio Spurs have been patiently waiting for Victor Wembaneyama to show signs of fulfilling his true potential.
Well, Wembane Yama has finally reached that level, as the Spurs star could win three individual awards this season: NBA MVP, DPOY, and MIP.
Yes, Wembaneyama has that much talent on both ends of the floor. However, former Miami Heat star Udonis Haslem recently pointed out some concerning upside to Wembaneyama.
At 7ā5ā Wemby is not your average player as he uses his incredible length to impact the game on both ends of the floor.
A key part of Wenbanyama’s defense is his ability to block shots at the rim. But Haslem feels the NBA is forgiving Wenby’s goaltending violations.
“The first thing we need to look at is some goal trends. Let’s look at that first, I just want to say,” Haslem said.
Haslem’s co-host Blake Griffin wonders if the former veteran is still frustrated by the Heat’s recent loss to the Spurs.
However, will this become a big problem for Wenbanyama’s defense going forward? Well, if more experts and fans start commenting on it, that could become a problem.
At only 21 years old, some believe Wembaneyama will quickly surpass the NBA’s current best player, Nikola Jokic. But does Wenby deserve so much hype from the NBA community?
Well, for now, the answer to that question is a resounding yes. Wenbanyama is currently averaging 30.2 points, 14.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
Not only does Wenby lead the league in rebounding, he also averages 4.8 blocks per game. As expected, the Spurs star comes out on top in that category as well.
Most importantly, the Spurs got off to a perfect start to the season with a 5-0 record, cementing Wenbanyama’s status as this season’s NBA MVP and DPOY candidate.
