UFC 316 has a new battle.
The UFC announced Monday that Marquel Medelos (10-1) will be booked to compete with rookie Mark Chonsky (8-0) in the spare portion of this Saturday’s pay-per-view at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Eurosport first reported a matchup.
Medelos was scheduled to fight Boraj Oki at UFC Vegas 107 last Saturday, but withdrew due to illness. Instead, Oki continued to defeat his cons Michael. The nature of Medelos’ illness is unknown, but he appears to be returning just a week later and improve to 3-0 in the UFC after scoring back-to-back decision victories at Austin Hubbard and Landon Kinone.
Choinski has been undefeated in eight professional matches and has recently competed against Anthony Pettis FC. He submitted John Ramirez on a recent outing and made his UFC debut on June 15th, pulling out of a scheduled APFC match against Zach Zane.
The UFC 316 is headlined by a rematch of the men’s bantamweight championship between Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley. Two-time women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Pena defends the title against Kayla Harrison in the co-main event.
