LONDON – Kevin Holland’s spending habits fight him very often.
The Netherlands (27-13 MMA, 14-10 UFC) have already fought twice this year and were able to rebound when he defeated Gunnar Nelson (19-6-1 MMA, 10-6 UFC) with a unanimous decision on the UFC Fight Night 255 main card on Saturday at O2 in London.
The Netherlands, who won five times in 2020 and is the most active fighter on the roster since then, explains why he has no plans to change his schedule.
“The amount I’ve made recently, I definitely managed to be late, but the amount I spend recently remains active,” the Netherlands told reporters, including MMA Junkies at a postwar press conference.
The Netherlands admits he looks good at 170 pounds, but says it will slow him down.
“If it’s 170 pounds, let’s be smart. I might do something else in a few months and then in a few months,” Holland said. “If it’s 170 pounds, you’ll probably only get two more this year. At most three. If it’s 185 pounds, you can compete every weekend.”
Before beating Nelson, the Netherlands were immediately submitted by Renier de Rider in their middleweight match at UFC 311. He thinks he managed Nelson’s strength and worked on much better because of his weight class, not skill.
“That’s a huge difference,” Holland said. “When you fight a guy like Gunnar, you can say a lot, but you can’t say he can’t tackle, do you know what I mean? If he’s a better grappler than RDR, size makes a difference to the game.”
