UFC's Henry Sejude Mulling retires after his career's "worst injury"

Henry Sejude is still dealing with the effects of persistent eye injuries in the loss of UFC Fight Night 253 to Song Yadon and is acting as a wake-up call.

Cejudo (16-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) saw his main event in the controversial song (22-8-1 MMA, 11-3-1 UFC) as he took a long break in action late in the third round. The former two division champions continued in the end, reaching the end of the frame.

The song was not deducted for points of Sejude’s harmful foul. The eye-openers were not considered intentional either. Instead, he came out with losses, but also prolonged complications in his vision that have significantly changed his retirement timeline.

“I sound like a crybaby, but that’s the worst injury I’ve had,” Sejudo told MMA Junkie. “I actually got a second opinion. I went to Sean (O’Malley’s) Doctor. Another thing I said was that my eyes were fine for a month, but every time I watch TV or look down, I still see doubles. To retire, I look in a certain way.

“I didn’t think mixed martial arts sports were a kind of danger. I spoke to my wife. I think this could be my last fight. That’s one more thing. If I could run with a song, it wouldn’t be a song. I’m very honest with you.”

Sejude told the Washington State Licensing Office (WSDOL) that he has filed an appeal and legal action on how he believes Judge Jason Herzog is mishandling the situation at Seattle’s Climate Commitment Arena. We still see if that leads to fruitfulness, but Sejude said that the satisfactory outcome is to overturn and overturn the outcome.

Regardless of how it unfolds, Sejude said his priority is his health. The 38-year-old retired earlier in May 2020, but for very different reasons. The eye injury changed his reality and made him think differently about the consequences of stepping into the octagon.

Cejudo can minimize additional health risks by hanging gloves. However, he said that while the potential path is not something that he can live comfortably, it all depends on whether his current situation actually improves.

However, if the worst-case scenario occurs, Cejudo seriously rethinks the benefits of returning to the Octagon.

“I don’t want to leave. I don’t mind losing, but I don’t want to leave the odd eyeball hit,” Sejudo said. “It can’t end like that, and I’m grateful. I love Dana (white) and everyone. This isn’t a shot in the UFC. They gave me a platform that really helped my family.

“I don’t know what the UFC is planning (for me). I definitely want to fight in the fall for a while. I’ve soothed my eyes, they said it for another 30 days, but if it doesn’t get better, I don’t know if I’ll come back. I think this is the last thing.”
