UFC middleweight Joe Pyfer is not sure exactly what caused the illness that drove him out of his fight with Kelvin Gastherm at the very end, but that didn’t stop him from tearing the whole country apart for his problems.
Pyfer (13-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) was set up for a main card showdown with Kelvin Gastelum at the UFC on ESPN 64. Matchup was one of the most predicted fights across the card, but Pyfer was kicked out hours before the event due to illness.
Shortly after the news was confirmed, Pyfer shared a message on social media that he was heartbroken about having to get out of the fight, hoping that he could reschedule his fight against Gastelum (19-9 MMA, 13-9 UFC) in a few weeks.
Following the event, Pyfer shared a longer explanation, which had been down from his point of view, and announced an apology to Gastherum. Pyfer said he went to dinner for the team but said he didn’t drink any water during his stay in Mexico before the fight.
“I went to dinner and ate food in places I thought I could trust. A few hours later, I ran,” Pyfer said in a video posted on her Instagram story. “I think I’ve taken sh*t at least 10 or 11 times. I think that’s what I’m like from 209 pounds.
“(I) had a fever, obviously nausea. I had vomiting, exhausting stomach pains, and it was not wise to fight that way, as the doctor and I did.
Pyfer explained that going through the process of bringing his family and friends to the fight was a financial blow as he was not paid. He wants to continue his Gastherm matchup as he believes it is a good fight that makes sense.
When closing his video, Pyfer burned Earth as a nation in Mexico. Accepting that he didn’t know what caused the illness, Pyfer promised not to return to Mexico and labeled the country “Sh*T Hole.”
“I don’t care if it’s uncomfortable for you or not. I’ll never go back to that country,” Pyfer said. “I did everything right. I slept in my tent. I still did all this job to get sick. I say it’s not food and I’m getting altitude sick.
“If it’s altitude and elevation, then the country f*ck. I’ll never fight there again. h*t hole. I don’t care if it’s uncomfortable for you or not. You’re not a fight. Suck my balls. Literally.”
