Daniel Cormier took command in a coaching duel with Chael Sonnen, with one of Cormier’s fighters taking home the extra cash.
The fourth episode of The ultimate fighter 33 Team Sonnen’s Andreas Binder (10-1, 1 NC) featured some intense weighing dramas as he failed to build weight in the 170-pound tournament quarter-final match against Team Colmier’s Jeff Clayton (11-2-1). What’s worse, the binder wasn’t even nearby.
It was the binder’s team that called him to stop losing weight after he slid. tuf The house lasts three hours until I get weight. At that point, the binder was still above its limit and at 5 pounds.
The crisis led Sonnen to call Comer and offer a contract to keep the fight intact. Clayton is paid $1,000 for each pound that has been completed with the binder. When Cormier presented his offer to Creighton, tuf The contestants proposed raising the penalty to $2,500 per pound. Sonnen agreed and showed up on the measurement in an envelope containing $12,500 in cash.
Clayton’s Gambit was rewarded in a big way as he not only made five numbers to fight, but also defeated the binder and advanced to the semi-finals. The binder got stronger in the first round, dealing well with Clayton’s pressure and catching him with a hard punch to get him back on the fence. He then caught a kick, placed Clayton on his back, then landed a few punches and jumped into Clayton’s guard. Clayton survived the storm and reached the second round.
The binder was clearly rising 10-9 on the cards, but Cormier pointed out that the binder had a large cut in his forehead and was confident that the Irish fighter could not keep up with Clayton’s pace due to the hard weight cut. Sure enough, Clayton continued his pressure and ultimately scored a takedown early in Round 2. From there he took the binder’s back and slammed him with a punch, suffocating and threatening him as the binder’s blood poured into the mat.
Clayton couldn’t find a finish, but his advantage was enough to get him a 10-8 round and a decisive victory (a score of 19-18 all over).
With the victory, Cormier has two welterweights in the semifinals (Creighton and Daniil Donchenko) and leads Sonnen 3-1 in the coaching competition.
In next week’s flyweight matchup, Team Cormier’s Alividilis (Kazakhstan) will face Team Sonnen’s Fakatbek Jokbov (Ireland).
The ultimate fighter 33 Airs will perform live on ESPN+ every Tuesday at 10pm.
Unlike most editions of tufcoaches Daniel Cormier and Charle Sonnen will not compete at the end of the season as both have retired for a long time.
