Daniel Cormier has lost patience.
For two weeks in a row The ultimate fighter 33Cormier had to see one of his fighters get much flattered to the disappointment of the former two division champions. This week, it was Roybert Echeverria (Venezuela) of Team Chael Sonnen who submitted Team Cormier’s Tumelo Manya (South Africa) in the second round.
Manimala was hit by a smooth blow to snipe Echeveria quickly, using his speed and smooth blows. After controlling for most of the round with a consistent counter punch, Manimala put Echeveria on her right hand and dropped it on her knees. Echeveria recovered, but entered the second round on the scorecard.
In between frames, Sonnen and his team told echeverria they needed to close the distance more aggressively to work for the takedown. Echeverria stuck to the game plan and used the same combination multiple times every time it ended with a takedown attempt. Manyamala packed Echeverria twice, but succumbed to a third attempt, from which the fight went downhill for him.
Echeveria dragged Manimala to the mat and placed him there before working for the rear choke that forced him to tap.
Cormier was then unable to hide his disappointment in Manimala, which did not advance in round two. In last week’s episode, he blows up Alex Sanchez due to loss of ti disease.
“You should have won that fight, so that’s frustrating,” Kolmier told Manimala. “Remember what you are feeling now and make sure it doesn’t happen to you again. Don’t waste this opportunity, you will learn a lot now.”
Echeverria’s performance is TUF: Smash Former middleweight champion Robert Whitaker, who served as Sonnen’s guest coach this week.
Kolmier’s lead against Sonnen in the series is now 4-3. Currently, each coach has two flyweights in the semi-finals, with Cormier sending Alibi Idilis and Imanor Rodriguez, while Sonnen sending Echeveria and Joseph Morales.
Sonnen can tie it down next week as Diego Biancini fights Cormier’s Rodrigo Sezinand in the battle for the first welterweight pick of each team.
The ultimate fighter 33 Airs will perform live on ESPN+ every Tuesday at 10pm.
Unlike most editions of tufcoaches Daniel Cormier and Charle Sonnen will not compete at the end of the season as both have retired for a long time.
Finalists of TUF 33 Welterweight and Flyweight Tourments compete for a six-figure UFC deal in the show’s live finale battle. The dates for these matches have not been announced yet.
