Under my captain, you will see many results like this – axarPatel
DC, who first bowled in the match, was destroyed by Nicholas Fourlan and Mitchell Marsh, but pulled things back to limit the LSG to 8/209. While chasing the target they reduced to 3/7, but Ashutosh Sharma, Tristan Stubbs and Viprazi Nigam hit brilliantly to lead DC to a thrilling victory.
After the match, Axar Patel said fans should get used to watching this kind of match under the captain. He said:
“Get used to it. Under my captain, you’ll see a lot of results like this (lol). We won’t talk a lot. Why did you give Stubbs or whatever bowling?
Axar Patel also said that the ultra-offensive batting in the Indian Premier League began after the introduction of the impact player rules. He said:
“It started last year because of the impact player rules. Bowlers take a hit, but keep getting wickets. As a bowler, there’s always an option to get a wicket if you think you’re going to hit.”
But in the last 7 overs we bowled very well – axarPatel
Axar Patel further stated that they bowled poorly in the power playover but bouncing off well in the last few overs. He said:
“I thought we had some extra runs in the way they played in the first six overs. We also fell off the catch. But we bowled very well in the last seven overs. We did 40 runs.
Axar Patel also gave a special cry to Vipraj Nigam for his sparkle with the bat during Run-Chase. He said:
“We’ve been camping since last week. Everyone knows the possibilities for each other. I thought Nigam has a possibility. In the future games, he will continue to thrive.”
How did DC work in previous IPL matches with LSG?
In a previous IPL match against the Lucknow Super Giants, the Delhi Capitals made a strong all-around performance on May 14, 2024, securing a 19-run victory.
The first batting DC faced an early setback when Jake Fraser McGurk fell to the duck. However, Abishek Porel (33-58) and Shai Hope (38 Off 27) fought back at LSG bowlers with their hindfoots. Paulel competed for 21 balls 50 and helped DC reach 73/1 on the power play.
Rishabh Pant then chipped in with a 33-run knock, while Tristan Stubbs played an explosive inning (57*25 off) to lead DC to a total of 208/4.
With the ball, DC has Ishant Sharma (3/34) dismantled the top order for LSG, removing KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda within five overs.
Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav also contributed to important breakthroughs, reducing LSG to 101/6 despite Nicholas Pooran’s 27-ball fight.
Even if Arshad Khan (33-58*) began a slow assault, the bowlers at DC held their nerves and limited the LSG to 189/9. The victory marked DC’s seventh victory of the season, winning the league campaign.
