According to Football Insider, Manchester United has rekindled interest in the potential signature of Crystal Palace striker Gianphilippe Mateta.
Reuben Amorim is expected to readjust his offensive system, and adding a striker with Premier League experience is high on the agenda.
The club links to names of marquees such as Viktor Gyoker and Viktor Osimhen, but Mateta offers more financially flexible options.
The French attacker scored 17 goals last season, helping his team win the FA Cup.
Reuben Amorim wants additional attacks
At 26, Mateta entered his best year, and the abilities demonstrated in the top flight of English add weight to United’s interests.
Former Chief Scoutmic Brown provided the latest update on United’s interest in Mateta.
“Crystal Palace is talking to Mateta about signing a new contract,” he told Soccer Insider.
“At this point, there’s no doubt that he might stay in the palace, rather than going elsewhere.
“He is a big player for them and is a big part of the manager’s plan to continue building his team.
“He is the one guy United have seen and one of a few people I might add and I am sure they are paying attention to the situation there.
“They have other targets, they expect to put them ahead of Mateta, but if they can’t get someone else on the line, he’s been told.
“If for any reason the palace doesn’t agree to the deal, it may give United a chance to make a move.”
Man United needs Mateta to solve the scoring problem
Mateta may not have the appeal of United’s previous striker’s signature, but his suitability for the Premier League and the possibility of complementing Amorim’s tactical demands make him an interesting target.
His potential arrival may be bad news for Rasmus Hozilund, who has struggled with his performance at Old Trafford.
With Matheus Cunha’s signature from the wolves already completed and now Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford’s signing on radar, interest in Mateta shows his intention and ambition to build a strong offensive power for next season.
