Thai Wofinden’s wife has provided the first significant update on his condition since the terrible crash last weekend.
The three-time world champion at Speedway was airlifted to a Polish hospital after an accident during a race for his team, Rzeszow.
Initially, after demanding patience, his wife, Faye Wofinden, explained the latest.
She wrote on social media: “Our brave boy is with us!
“Tai has been experiencing more than we could even imagine. Multiple broken bones, major surgeries, blood transfusions – his body has endured very much. But his spirit remains strong, so is our hope.
“Everyone who knows Thailand knows how open, honest and full of life he is. When he is ready, he shares his story in his own way. But his only job is to rest, heal and find the power to overcome this.
“The love, kindness and support we have received from everyone has been overwhelmed in the most beautiful way. There are really no words to express how deeply we are grateful.
“I hesitate to name an individual for fear of missing someone, but I would like to extend my heart and soul to those involved in saving Thailand.
“You gave him a chance to fight to someone special we can’t name, someone who played an important role in leading the helicopter to the truck, and to the medical team he cared for before he arrived at the hospital, and we will never forget that.
“To Dr. Paweu Jassiski, to organize all the surgeries and ensure Thailand has the best team possible.
“To the incredible doctors and medical team at Rzeszów, the Stal Rzeszów team, especially Paweł Piskorz and Michał Drymajło, your unwavering support means everything.
“From the bottom of our hearts to our family, our friends, and each and every one who reached out, offered help, or simply embraced us with their thoughts.
“Your love has carried us into the darkest moments. We will never forget it.”
The Sheffield Tigers paid tribute to Wofinden on Thursday night, when they had a schedule to race for them.
The crowd chanted his name, and Sheffield won without him.
Teammate Josh Pickering then shed tears as he discussed his friend’s injuries.
