Victor Wembaneyama has raised his game to a level where he can compete with not just any other player, but the entire NBA roster.
Victor Wembaneyama started the 2025-26 NBA season with a level of ferocity never seen before.
His outstanding performance in the San Antonio Spurs’ first three games helped the Spurs start the season 3-0.
Wenby appears to have benefited from his summer workouts with Hakeem Olajuwon and looks comfortable on both ends of the floor.
Wenbanyama is setting records that even Tim Duncan has never been able to achieve. And after the Spurs’ win over the Brooklyn Nets, Wemby was literally set apart from any other NBA player.
To start the season, Victor Wembaneyama blocked 18 shots in three games. This means he averages 6.0 blocks per game.
What makes this strong start to the season even more impressive is the fact that Wenbanyama has outscored more than half of the teams in the league.
Only six teams in the NBA, including Wenbanyama’s Spurs, have registered more blocks than Wenbanyama’s 18 so far.
| team/player | Total number of blocks |
| detroit pistons | 26 |
| san antonio spurs | twenty four |
| memphis grizzlies | 20 |
| boston celtics | 19 |
| LA Clippers | 19 |
| sacramento kings | 18 |
| Victor Wenbanyama | 18 |
| milwaukee bucks | 17 |
It was a great defensive start for Wenbanyama, who is looking to win the Defensive Player of the Season award.
Victor Wembaneyama is playing the best basketball of his young career thus far. In his first three games, Wenbanyama is averaging 33.3 points per game.
What’s even more impressive is that he’s shooting over 36% from the field, which is great for a center in the NBA.
Unlike in past years, the Spurs have a strong complement around Wembaneyama, with Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper also performing at a high level.
If Spurs can maintain the pace this season, especially Wenby, gave them at the start of the season, they have a good chance of making a big run in the playoffs.
