How do you stop Victor Wenbanyama? You can’t.
The San Antonio Spurs started the season 3-0 with a 118-107 home victory over the Brooklyn Nets.
There were no surprises when the Spurs faced the winless Nets, but the Nets lost to emerging MVP candidate Victor Wembaneyama.
Wembaneyama surprised the league with 40 points in the season opener against the Mavericks, and followed that up with two more big performances.
He scored 29 points against the Pelicans and added 31 points in the win over the Nets.
The Nets fought back with a great rally in the second half, winning the third quarter 33-19. Wenbanyama replaced him in the fourth and ensured the victory.
Victor Wembaneyama’s game is about more than just scoring. He has a huge impact on both sides of the ball.
One sequence at the end of the second quarter showed exactly how dominant Victor Wembaneyama was.
Wenbanyama made two blocks in quick succession and did not allow the Nets to score.
He then collected a pass and sank a 3-point shot from just outside the logo.
It was a spectacular highlight scene that showed how impossible it was to play against the French genius.
