Victor Wembaneyama has had an incredible start to the season.
It all started with Victor Wembaneyama’s 40 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks in a season-opening victory over the Dallas Mavericks over the San Antonio Spurs.
Wenbanyama then won against the New Orleans Pelicans, recording 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 blocks.
Wenbanyama followed that up with 31 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 blocks in a win over the Brooklyn Nets.
Wembaneyama continues to play like an MVP as the Spurs have a perfect 3-0 record.
Through three games, Wenbanyama had 18 blocks. He was just as dominant offensively and defensively.
Considering the way Wenbanyama blocks shots, he may have a chance to break the NBA record for most blocks in a season.
But Tim Legler doesn’t think Wenbanyama can do that.
“I came here to tell you, he didn’t do that.
“Mark Eaton had 456 blocks in 1984-85. So if Wenby played in 70 games, he would have to average more than six blocks per game. That’s absurd.”
“Even if he played in all 82 games, he would have to average almost six games per game.”
If Wembaneyama continues to play like this, he will have a chance to win two important NBA awards this season.
Wembaneyama should be the frontrunner for the Defensive Player of the Year award. They would have won last year if the season hadn’t been interrupted by blood clot issues.
The other big NBA award that Wembaneyama can win is MVP. This award will certainly be difficult to win, but he and Giannis Antetokounmpo have led the race through the first week of the season.
Not only did the Spurs win the game, but Wenbanyama quickly became one of the best players in the NBA.
