The unexpected test retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli shocked everyone just before the tour of England, and legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble felt the same way.
Kumble believes that both Rohit and Kohli are worthy of farewells on the field. He also believes that both players have several years left.
“That’s a big surprise. Two outstanding great players are retiring in the coming days. I didn’t see it coming. It certainly caught me off guard. Especially at the test level he thought there would be a few more years left,” Kumble said in “Espncricinfo.”

Anil Kumble was the Indian team head coach between 2016 and 2017. He was forced to quit his tenure before the period due to a rift between Indian skipper Kohli.
During his tenure, India was the number one side in the test rankings. Kumble served as the permanent coach of the Indian team at the shortest time.
Kumble finished his cricket career with 619 wickets in Test cricket, and he is the leading wicket taker in Indian red ball format.
