Former West Indies batting legend Chris Gale recently shared his thoughts on Virat Kohli’s decision to retire from Test cricket. In May 2025, Virat Kohli surprised the entire world of cricket by suddenly announcing his retirement from Test cricket, the form he loved most.
The former Indian captain finished his illustrious Test career on May 12th after 123 glittering stints and a massive tally of 9,230 ran his name. In response to Kohli’s move, Gayle believes his former RCB teammate quickly left Test cricket.

The West Indies also said the game would feel that White has no Kohli given its height and impact on the game. Gale described Kohli as one of the biggest numbers in the sport, highlighting that his retirement left a big gap in the test game.

The former West Indies batsman also expressed his happiness about being part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team, which ultimately unlocked the IPL trophy earlier this year.
He recalled the excitement of sharing his achievements with Virat Kohli after the IPL 2025 Finals, and said it was a special moment for RCB and Ab De Villiers.
Gale added: “I just lifted the trophies because I know there were a lot of finals here and there, even guys like Virat lifted the trophies.
In particular, Gayle and De Villiers joined the RCB celebrations on the ground and in the dressing room after crushing the Punjab King in June and winning the IPL 2025 trophy.

Sunil Gavaskar’s predictions about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are realized
Meanwhile, old predictions about former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have resurfaced. Gavaskar made that prediction at the 2012 Asian Cup, when Sachin Tendulkar played his last ODI game.
He declared that Kohli and Rohit were India’s future during the India-Pakistan match at Mirpur, and the predictions of the legendary batsman turned out to be true.
Gavaskar said in the commentary box: “I think we got a glimpse into the future. The future of batting in India. Rahul Dravid calls it a day. We don’t know how long Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman are around.
In particular, both Kohli and Rohit have already retired from Test and T20I cricket, and are currently only active in ODI cricket. They will soon be acting in the three-match ODI series in Australia.
