Las Vegas – Celebrity with a big punch. That’s what Waldo Cortes-Acosta is looking for in his next career move.
The Dominican rising heavyweight candidate called out Derrick Lewis and Ty Tuivasa after his latest victory in the octagon. Cortes-Acosta (13-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) knocked out veteran span (22-11 MMA, 8-6 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 254 last Saturday, earning four consecutive wins and 6-1 with seven UFC outs.
“Derrick Lewis or Ty Tyvasa, I’m ready for them,” Cortez Acosta said in a postwar interview inside his cage.
Spann had appeared from Light Healveweight for this fight, but Cortes-Acosta believes this victory will drive him in the division, given Spann’s history in Light Healveweight.
“Absolutely, Ryan Spann is no one, so this will push me to the rankings,” Cortez Acosta said at a press conference after the UFC Fight Night 254 game. “I know that Ryan Span has moved to heavyweight and is still fighting (in the light heavyweights). He’s close to the top 10. Ryan Span is a good fighter. Today I trained so hard for that, so he didn’t show up, but I think he’ll be in trouble for the other heavyweights.”
Cortes-Acosta hopes to log in two more fights this year 2025. If that happens, he can see himself knocking on the door of the title in 2026.
“We’ll visualize it in two more fights this year and try to fight for the title,” Cortez Acosta said. “I want them to give me some celebrities. I will do my best to reach that title, God is pleased.”
