The Los Angeles reportedly are aiming to Miami Marlins right-handed pitcher Sandy Alcantara as trade deadlines approach.

“They want another starter. Yes, Alcantara is the guy they want,” MLB insider Bob Knightgale wrote in a recent column.
The made it a top priority to acquire the pitching talent that won this past offseason after the 2024 season. The ‘ aggression, signing the pitcher last winter, seemed almost excessive, but baseball business president Andrew Friedman said the goal was to avoid the trade market in July.

“I’m still optimistic,” Friedman said. “It requires people to come back and approach the timeline we’ve held up with pencils. It has shown that we’re actively adding if we’re not in a position to do it, but our strong desires aren’t.”
After entering October with a starting rotation featuring Jack Flaherty, Yoshinobu Yamamoto (who had missed almost three months of rookie season due to injuries) and Walker Bueller (who had been struggling very much throughout the regular season) will do everything possible to avoid a similar scenario in 2025.
Alcantara didn’t look like he did in 2022 when he unanimously won the Cy Young Award. The right-hander has recovered from Tommy John’s surgery, but he has slowly found his rhythm recently.
Alcantara is 2-1, with ERA of 2.74 with four starts in June. Right-handed isn’t a cheap acquisition, but when did the deal outlook stop the ?
