Young Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Ayush Mhatre was torn apart by Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Arshad Khan in the 67th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The right-handed batsman destroyed Ashad with 28 runs on Sunday, May 25th in the first over at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Chennai Super Kings Captain Doni won the toss and chose to hit first in the final match. Chennai, at the bottom of the table, made one change by including Deepak Hoodha in place of Ravichandran Ashwin. The Gujarat Titans also made a difference when Gerald Cauchy replaced Kagiso Rabada.

Mohammed Siraj opened bowling for the Ahmedabad-based franchise, giving only six runs at the first boundary, including one boundary. However, Ayush Mhatre launched a brutal attack in the second over, defeating 28 runs.

The right-handed batter began to over with doubles before hitting consecutive sixes. He followed with two boundaries, and then finished six more. The left arm bowler was removed from the attack after bowling expensive ones.

Most runs scored by CSK batters alone
Ayush Mhatre etched his name into the Chennai Super Kings record book by running a single from Arshad Khan 28 times. This is the fifth-highest run in IPL history for a CSK batter to score in overs.
Ravindra Jadeja tops the list in 2021 with a stunning 36 runs against Harshal Patel. SureshRaina and Dewald Brevis are in second and third place, respectively.

However, Ayush Mhatre couldn’t take advantage of his fiery start and was rejected for 34 with just 17 deliveries. Current purple cap holder Prashidi Krishna has finished its first opening stand.
At the time of filing this report, the Chennai Super Kings were 82/1 at the end of the seventh over, with Urbil Patel (12 off 12) and Devon Conway (13 off 13) in the crease.
Matre was taken to the CSK team mid-season to replace the injured Ruthuraj Gaikwad. Prior to this game, he averaged 34.33 and scored 206 runs in six innings, scoring 94 runs with a strike rate of 187.27. CSK has discovered a promising long-term opening game.
