On Friday (April 5), Mumbai Indian captain Hardik Pandya starred in a ball with the Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, leading from the frontline.

India’s Allrounder has won the 5-wicket haul for the first time in his IPL career. His previous best bowling figure in the IPL was 3/17 when he chose to be captain of the Gujarat Titan against the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 Finals.

Hardik Pandya had an immediate impact on LSG. In the second over, Pandya rejected LSG’s counterpart Rishabh Pant, putting the Mumbai Indians in the driver’s seat.

He then bowled for the 18th LSG innings, picking up a proper set of Idenmark Rum wickets and rejecting 53 LSG openers.

He finished the innings with a 5/36 number. Pandya scored five wickets in the game, but the Mumbai Indians were unable to stop LSG from stopping more than 200 total posts. The hosts finished the innings on 8/203. Mitchell Marsh and Marklum won half a century in their Lucknow-based outfits.

Hardik Pandya creates history:

Hardik Pandya made history with the five wicket haul as he became the first player to win five wickets in an IPL match as captain. He also became the first IPL captain since 2015 to score more than four wickets in a match.

The record for the best bowling figure as an IPL captain was held with the former legendary Anil Cumble winning four wickets on 16 runs in the match. The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain picked four wickets in 2009 with 16 runs against the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, recreating his feat in 2010 with the same team.

IPL Captain with the best bowling figures:

  • 5/36 -Hardik Pandya vs LSG, Lucknow, 2025
  • 4/16 -Anil Kumble vs DCH, Johannesburg, 2009
  • 4/16 -Anil Kumble vs DCH, Navi Mumbai, 2010
  • 4/17 -JP Duminy vs Srh, Vizag, 2015
  • 4/21 -Shane Warne vs DCH, Nagpur, 2010
