On the second ball of the 21st, England captain Ben Stokes bowled a short length delivery to India’s new No. 3 Karun Naia, continuing the seams at angles, leaving the batter squared.
Nia only managed to edge the delivery, and it seemed the ball would pass the gap between the wicketkeeper and the first slip.
But Joe Root didn’t let it happen, and he jumped to his left and grabbed the ball on the ground with the wrong hand, stunning the Lord’s crowd. The decision was sent upstairs, and after seeing it from a different angle, the third judge declared it “out.”
It was catch number 211 of his Test career and his amazing efforts helped him break the record of the highest ever in most catches in the history of Indian legend Rahul Dravid’s Test cricket.
Apart from Root and Dravid, Mahera Jayawarden, Jack Karis and Steve Smith are three players with 200 catches in Test cricket. Meanwhile, Karun Nair didn’t convert his start to a big score after scoring 40 runs from 62 balls.
Overall, Karun Nyah faced Ben Stokes in four innings of Test cricket. He faced 21 balls from Ben Stokes and scored just 15 runs while leaving twice.

It was a spectacular reflective catch – Isa Guha
Former British bowler Isa Guha was left surprised to see Root shocked with a slip, but former British captain Michael Vaughn said he would be disappointed because Karn Naia couldn’t make a big knock.
“It took, amazing! It was an amazing reflex catch, fell to the left of Joe Root. How did he do that?” Former England Bowraisagha said in the BBC Test Match Special.
“Ben Stokes will make things happen again. Karn Nia will be disappointed that he is not there, and here’s the skipper. England must find a way.”
Meanwhile, speaking about Sky Sports, former England skipper Nassar Hussein praised his catch for helping him become a world record holder. He said:
“If you want to get a world record on catch, do it that way. How to get there. Great.”
