Luckily for John Jones, Tom Aspinoll is not interested in shooting ducks.
Earlier this month, Aspinel was officially promoted to the indisputable UFC heavyweight champion from the interim after former division title holder Jones chose to retire instead of signing the dotted line for the much-anticipated unified clash.
Not long after taking his legitimate place on top of the heavyweight championship, Aspinel celebrated by photographing a small clay dove along with one andy aspinel and Adam Catterall.
Tom Aspinall aims to become the most heavyweight ever
Aspinall has yet to book his first defense since the promotion. Still, Britt vowed to keep things moving at the heavyweights after the final two title holders, John Jones and Francis Ngannow, led the entire weight class to a crashing stop.
“I’m going to keep this as active as possible,” Aspinall announced on his YouTube channel. “I want to be the best heavyweight ever to walk on the face of the planet, and I’ll protect this as many times as I can.
“I intend to keep you entertained. I really give back to everyone who has shown me support over the past five years. I am truly grateful for the support and love that everyone has given me.
As it stands, Ciryl Gane appears to be Aspinall’s first man. The pair have been linked for years, and Aspinel repeatedly refused the opportunity for “Bon Gamin” to step into the octagon with him.
Another possibility is Maiton Almeida. Aside from the brutal second-round knockout loss against Curtis Braides, “Markhadinho” is perfect inside the Octagon, beating Parker Porter, Zeaginho Rosestrik, Derrick Lewis and Alexander Romanoff. Most recently, Almeida won an opening round KO at UFC 311 in January with Sergei Spivac.
