Former England forward Wayne Rooney says Liverpool showed a vulnerability that Chelsea could quickly exploit as Red slipped into a dramatic 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
The game itself was a roller coaster. Moisés Caiceceo scored on an incredible long-range strike before Cody Gakpo leveled to Liverpool in the second half.
However, it was a 95-minute finish from Estevan, handing Chelsea a valuable three-pointer, leaving Liverpool with him getting caught up in, and intervention was delayed.
Speaking in the aftermath, he insisted that Liverpool had a “clear problem” in the right back area.
Wayne Rooney points his finger to Connor Bradley
Rooney highlighted how Connor Bradley was hooked at halftime in his recent match, suggesting that the club was forced into a makeshift solution, including a trial of the role that left the right side of the role on the right side.
According to Rooney, its instability was not subtle, the opponents were aware, and Chelsea adjusted their approach to exploiting it.
“That’s an obvious problem Liverpool has in the right back area.” Rooney said at the BBC’s match that day.
“Connor Bradley has been off twice at halftime in his last two league games.
‘They tried Dominique Zobosrai, but it didn’t really work for him. Jeremie Frimpong was on the bench today, but not on, so we tried three right backs in seven league games.
“Chelsea saw it and misused it, Liverpool’s back fours were everywhere and there were early warning signs.
“Bradley got the yellow card and I’m sure that was a big factor in his departure from the bottom at halftime. It was all seasons, so it was a big problem for Liverpool today.”
Liverpool struggles in the right back position
Liverpool appears to be missing Trent Alexander Arnold, who will leave the club in the summer and join Real Madrid.
His defense was sometimes criticised, but he helped his team move the ball forward with the qualities of playing the ball. This is something the Reds missed this season.
Bradley is still young and learning, and with more time and experience, he could improve, but at this point it is an area that is causing concern for the Merseyside Club.
