Former Liverpool star Stan Colliemore hit his old club due to the hype he created with Florian Wiltz’s signature.
German International recently completed a club record transfer from Bayer Leberkusen to Liverpool. There’s no doubt that the attacking midfielder looks like an exciting addition to Arne Slot’s team.
Still, Colliemore feels that Liverpool has probably gone a little higher with the amount of contract announcements and social media posts along with it.
Critics compared this to the way Manchester United and Real Madrid tend to act with superstar signatures.
Liverpool is putting more pressure on Florian Whartz
Collymore added that this also puts more pressure on Wirtz, as it appears to be promoting him as the new mainman, rather than highlighting the club being a team.
“I counted 37 tweets in Liverpool in connection with Florian Wiltz on the day he signed, and when I saw it, I asked myself if they’d ever done it for a slot for Mohamed Sarah, Jurgen Klopp or Arne.
“Liverpool’s best weapon is that they’re going to keep going in business. They’re not as flashy as Man United or Real Madrid, but they’re effective at winning trophies. I thought they’d have a bit of reservation in Wirtz’s announcement, but their social media and marketing department essentially put him under more pressure.
“I can talk more than most people about this given that I keep a UK transfer record at once, and I think that could cause internal tensions in Liverpool.
“I don’t want to stick a wurts head on top of a parapet in Liverpool, so that I can only have a disappointing season next season.
