The Golden State Warriors probably have a full roster of all 30 teams heading into the 2025-26 NBA season.
The Warriors’ best players (Steven Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green) are all on signing, but they don’t have much help right now.
The biggest reason for their offseason’s lackluster is their stalemate in negotiating contracts with Jonathan Cuminga representatives.
Kuminga believes he is worth the more than $45 million deals offered to him over two years, and he is leaning towards hoping for a fresh start in another franchise.
The power forward future remains unresolved, but Golden State was unable to build the remaining roster for the upcoming season.
NBA reporter Anthony Slater revealed what the Warriors star player is feeling about the ongoing contract negotiations.
The Warriors players will be excused for being unhappy with the lack of offseason moves, but it appears not.
Slater explained on ESPN that the senior star was fully aware of the situation after discussing with general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.
“The public looked at the warriors and said, ‘Hey, you still have nine players on the roster, so veterans have to go crazy.’ They’re not,” he said.
“They had communication with Mike Dunleavy. They know what the roster looks like. They know the falling dominoes. They’re not in the dark about it.”
However, Slater added that if they only return to a one-year qualifying offer, the Warriors may be concerned about Kuminga’s commitment.
“But I think they’ll be wondering about the buy-in if Jonathan Cuminga returns to the qualifying offer,” he continued.
“Can their curiosity do Jonathan Cuminga come back and accomplish this thing that allows the egoists to be part of this team without trying to move forward?”
The Warriors have nine players on their roster, only three weeks away from their first preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
- Security guards – Steph Curry, Brandin Posiemski
- Wings – Buddy Heald, Moses Moody, Jimmy Butler
- Forward – Draymond Green
- Bigs – Trace Jackson Davis, Quinten Post
If they can agree to a new contract with Kuminga, they will have at least a depth strength in their wings and forward positions.
However, even if the 15-point game scorer returns, the Warriors lack guard and center options from the bench.
Once the future of Cuminga is resolved, Dunleavy will certainly try to add some veterans to the roster, including Al Horford and Gary Payton II.
