According to the head coach of the middleweight champion, Dorikas du Plessis will be in full offensive mode when faced with Kamza Chimaev.
Du Plessis and Chimaev Headline UFC 319 One of the biggest fights in promotion for the middleweight title held in Chicago on August 16th. The undefeated Chimaev is known for his fast start, but Duplesis shows much in all aspects of MMA during his reign of his impressive title.
As Duplesis prepares for his third title defense, his head coach Morn Visser says his fighter is ready to go into the fire along with Chimeh.
“Camthat doesn’t know what it is when people want to wrestletter him,” Visser told UFC 319 Countdown. “He only faces people trying to escape from his wrestling. We don’t want to escape from his wrestling.
Du Plessis is hoping for his second victory of the year after dominating Sean Strickland at his second meeting at UFC 312 in February. Previously, “Stillknocks” stopped Israeli Adesanya in August 2024 with its first title defense at UFC 305.
Chmaev won the title shot this October in the first round destruction of former champion Robert Whitaker at UFC 308. While most fighters focus on being defensively healthy against Chimaev, Duplesis coaches feel that the champion can mimic some of the successes that have mimicked Gilbert Burns and Kamal Usmann as offensive wrestling attackers against Chimaev in the past.
According to Visser, it will lead to Du Plessis’ ultimate success.
“I don’t think you’re going to beat my man for one thing. It’s wrestling,” Visser explained. “That guy is one dimension. Have you ever seen him stand-up? I don’t even give him a professional license for his stand-up. He doesn’t present us with any issues. We’re a problem.”
