Wesley Brian said he plans to suspend the PGA Tour after attending the LIV Golf Influencer event earlier this month.
“Weeks have been difficult for us,” Brian said in a YouTube video posted Wednesday. “It was certainly an emotional roller coaster for everyone in this cart.”
Brian, 35, will appear in the video along with his older brother George. Their “Bryan Bros Golf” YouTube channel features videos primarily of trick shots, with over 550,000 subscribers as of Wednesday.
Brian got off to a 134 start on the PGA Tour and his only victory came in 2017 with the RBC legacy.
While building an online business, Brian Brothers is taking part in the Creator Classic event on the PGA Tour for golf content creators.
Wesley Bryan’s participation in a similar format of PGA Tour rival Liv Golf was that he was able to get hot water. He confirmed Wednesday that he was suspended after taking part in Liv’s “dal” at Doral this month.
Calling his indefinite suspension a “small disagreement” on the video, Brian explained why he attended the event in Doral.
“We had to jump on that opportunity because what we wanted to do from the Brian Brothers is that we can combine professional golf with YouTube golf.
Brian was warned that if he attended a LIV event he could face a halt. PGA Tour rules state that members who attend the Liv event are facing a one-year ban.
Brian said he was suing because “The Duels” was not a regular LIV event.
“I want to be clear: I respect the authorities taking part in the tour, but due to the ambiguity of written rules and regulations, I, as a member of the PGA Tour, have the right to appeal my decision to plan the movement,” Brian said. “And when the rules were written, I don’t think it was intended to cover content creation on YouTube. I feel it is intended to cover organised, professional, high-level golf events.”
