West Ham United were told to make a move for the experienced Premier League defender after Arsenal took over Japanese fullback Tomiyas.
The versatile defender was released by Arsenal this summer, and he is currently looking for new opportunities to revive his career.
Due to his constant injury issues, he made only one appearance at the North London Club last season.
Mikel Arteta, who is unhappy with the defender’s fitness record, allowed players to leave the club after he ended his contract.
He is now a free agent and West Ham United was urged to get him a chance this summer.
West Ham United need more depth to their defense
Once Aaron Creswell leaves the club, Hammer will need to add to the defensive rank, and Tomiyas is a player who can play as a right-back, left-back or center-back.
Former Brentford and Leicester City boss Martin Allen proposed Tomiyas’ name as a signature for potential West Ham United.
He said to West Hamzone:
“He is quick, strong and he appears to have a great attitude.
“Again, his injury record is a problem. One of West Ham’s best players last season was Wan Bisaka, so he probably won’t get in as a right back.
“I have seen him play sometimes as a left-back and sometimes as a centre-back for Arsenal, he is very versatile.
“He has experience and that’s something he lacks, so he may be a consideration.”
Tomiyas could be a clever addition to Potter’s team
The Japan International Defender made 65 appearances for gunners in the Premier League during his time at Emirates Stadium.
Tomiyasu combines versatility and defensive intelligence to bring you the Premier League experience.
Manager Graham Potter is known for his flexible, dynamic tactical setups, and often changes formations mid-game to adapt to conflict.
Players like Tomiyasu provide the essential cover throughout the backline, allowing Potter to replace the three systems and the back four systems.
