West Ham United reportedly held discussions on a potential transfer of Bayern Munich star Eric Deer.
However, England International has instead agreed to a deal to move to Monaco this summer and is back in the Premier League.
Deer has been doing well for Bayern and may have been a decent signing to the English club as West Ham is in the team to explore this deal.
According to TBR Football, the Hammers were in talks with Dears Camp, as were Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Leeds.
Still, Deer instead chose to try his luck in League One by joining Monaco after the end of this campaign with Bayern.
West Ham to find an alternative after missing Eric Deer’s transfer?
Deer is a solid defensive addition to Graham Potter’s team, providing versatility, experience and leadership.
All of these are terrible necessary qualities at London Stadium after a disappointing season, so I imagine WHUFC must consider alternatives.
Deer might have been ideal for West Ham, but there will certainly be other similar options out there that will appear as a possibility in weeks and months.
One name already linked to West Ham is the John Stones in Manchester City. This seems to be a profile that could actually turn things around for the struggling East London Club.
Eric Dear can be proud of Bayern’s spell
Deer’s move towards Bayern was certainly a surprise when it happened, as he had lost his favor to former club Tottenham at the time.
Still, the 31-year-old is a truly solid performer at Allianz Arena, making the most of this surprising spell at an elite European club.
Deer, even if it’s a shame he won’t see him in the Premier League, there should still be plenty to offer to another top team like Monaco.
