The 2025 MotoGP world champion has reached the mid-stage, with Mark Marquez looking good on the course to win his seventh premier class title this year.
During the summer holidays, 12 rounds have been run with a combined maximum of 444 points (12 points in victory) and Grand Prix (25 points in victory).
Mark Marquez led the championship with 381 points, accounting for 85.8% of the total points offered. The factory Ducati rider won eight Grand Prix and 11 sprints in 2025, with eight of the weekend earning him up to 37 points.
This is a record in the modern sprint era, and like this year’s sprint win count, Sunday’s eight wins since the recent title victory season in 2019 represents his highest tally since he won 12 Grand Prix out of 19.
Of Marquez, the most Grand Prix won season, was 13, and appeared in his second year in the Premier Class in 2014.
His Czech Grand Prix victory before the 2025 summer vacation made him the first Ducati rider in history for his fifth consecutive time. The most wins he has scored in a row was 10, and this was once again in 2014.
During summer holidays, Mark Marquez has 120 points ahead of second-placed Alex Marquez at Ducati in 2024, run by Grecini.
Alex Marquez recorded one Grand Prix victory and one sprint victory in 2025. His points stand at 261-58.7% of the opening 12 rounds, up to 444.
Fight the second much tighter without sprint points in MotoGP 2025
MotoGP’s sprint era is in its third year and is now part of the furniture. Championship battle with Pecco Bagnaia last year

Alex Marquez
Jorge Martin has proven how important a 12-point half-diant race is to a rider’s title hopes.
Bagnaia has won the most Grand Prix on the rider of the season since Marc Marquez managed 12 in 2019, but lost the championship 10 points due to eight non-scores.
In contrast, Martin won just three Grand Presses, but was much more consistent throughout the race weekend. During the 2024 race weekend, he scored under 20 points in just three times, but Bagnaia did so six times.
For Mark Marquez in 2025, he won everything except one sprint and was second in the other (at the British Grand Prix). At Grand Prix, he couldn’t finish with Kota after the crash. After dropping off the podium, he finished 12th at Jerez and third in the tricky Silverstone race. These Saturday results in the early season that eventually stopped his championship deficit after Kota and Jerez.
That said, after removing sprint points from the formula and the first half of the 2025 campaign, Marquez remains dominant.
With Grand Prix Points alone, he took 240 of the 300 possible times, or 80% of the maximum Sunday points offered. It gives him a 74-point advantage over Alex Marquez, who scored 166 points (max. 55.3%).
To contextualize this, Mark Marquez was clear in Andrea Dovizioso’s standings at the same stage of his dominant 2019 campaign.

The second battle is more intriguing with no sprint points. Alex Marquez, who won each on Sunday in 2025 and spent a pointless weekend at Brno in his name, is one point in the rankings, except for Pecco’s Bagnaia.
It is currently split in 48 points after 12 rounds. The sprint definitely helped Alex Marquez maintain his advantage over Bagnaia.
Alex Marquez has 10 podiums in the sprint, including a victory at Silverstone, a Grand Prix victory at Gerres and seven other runner-up spots. Bagnaia has five third place finishes and three non-scores in one sprint by Alex Marquez.
However, he finished in the 6 Grand Pulis podium and COTA victory, and three fourth-place finishes that compensated for his back-to-back non-scores in France and the UK when he removed sprint points from the rankings.
Marco Betzecchi placed the Prilia rider fourth in the rankings with 115 Grand Prix points in the win at Silverstone and seconds at Assen and Brno, with Franco Morbidelli coming in fifth ahead of 102 Pedro Acosta, ahead of 98, second in VR46 Ridar di Giannantonio Zarque John Hannantonio and 98 at VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio on 98, first place ahead of 102 Pedro Acosta. MANS-89, Fabio Quartarraro of Yamaha 69, and Gresini Rookie Fermin Aldegar of 68.
What will MotoGP 2025 look like if Sprints counted?
On Saturday this year, I got up to 144 points. Marc Marquez scored 141 of them – or 97.9% of the total.
This led Marc Marquez to take a 46-point lead with Alex Marquez, with Grecini Rider taking 95 of a total of 144 (65.9%) if only sprint points were counted this season. There is then a big gap between him and third-placed Fabio Digiannantonio, who won 50 this season.
Bagnaia slipped fourth in a 49-point position, drifting his Ducati teammate 92 times. This represents just 34.03% share of the largest available sprint points. Marco Betzecchi is fifth with Aprilia’s 41 points.
This was Marc Marquez’s control on Saturday in 2025, with his 141 points alone, making him sixth in his current standings. This is behind the 142 Digiannantonio, with the two avoiding VR46 teammate Franco Morbidelli.
