According to manager Dave Roberts, the Los Angeles plan to stay with Heisen Kim until Tommy Edman returns.
Edman’s stint on the injured list isn’t ideal, but fans are excited to see Kim in the big leagues. The infielder made his major league debut at Truste Park on Saturday night.
Kim played 2 bases in the nine innings of the ‘ 10-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Roberts revealed that Kim is likely to come out of the bench for the , but there is also the possibility that he could take some start.
Roberts reiterated that Kim’s hit was not a finished product, but the saw Edman’s ankle injury as an opportunity to call out the former KBO utility man.
The signed Kim into a three-year, $12.5 million deal this offseason. A few days later, the defending champion traded second base hand Gavin Lux for the Cincinnati Reds.
The appeared to be planning Kim with a pencil as their new second baseman for the 2025 season. However, the 26-year-old’s struggle at the plate this spring has shifted the team’s plans.
As the set out for Japan, Kim continued to work on swings in Arizona and launched a campaign in Triple A Oklahoma City. The infielder has arrived in the major leagues, hitting .257 with the .801 OPS.
“It’s a process. He’s progressing,” Roberts said of Kim’s adjustments. “And this is frankly a good opportunity for him to see the major league pitching and see the quality, as well as wet his feet and make his Major League debut debut in America.
“I think it’s kind of sort of getting out of the bench right now and filling in different places. But I’m going to try and get a start for him.”
Kim revealed he was shocked to see the raising him, but was pleased to join the defending champion.
“I was very surprised,” Kim said through an interpreter. “After last night’s match, Triple A manager Henny (Scott Hennessy) announced he was going to the show. He came with a very happy, very excited mindset. I’m really excited right now.”
