What is TGL? Schedule, Woods Missiloi Golf League players

The two biggest names of golf came together to bring a new experience to fans of the sport. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are the masterminds behind the interactive, technology-inspired golf league TGL.

The league partnered with the PGA Tour to provide the first experience where fans could see a team of top golfers compete in overly human and human fashion within custom-built arenas.

More information about TGL is as follows:

What is TGL Golf?

Founded in August 2022, TGL is a 3-on-3 Hightel 3-on-3 golf league featuring six teams made up of four PGA Tour golfers taking part in a two-hour match at Sophie Center, TGL’s custom build venue in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

What does TGL stand for?

TGL shortens tomorrow’s Golf League. The name comes from TMRW Sports, founded by Woods, McIlroy and former NBC Golf executive Mike McCarley, and focuses on creating technology ventures in the world of sports and entertainment.

How does TGL match work?

There are two sessions per TGL match. The first session includes triple, 9 holes, 3-for-3, and alternative shot formats. The second session is a single, with the players facing off on one, 6 holes in a direct match, with each golfer playing two holes during the session.

  • The courses within the SOFI Center are injected with a variety of technologies, covering an area of approximately 97 yards x 50 yards. This is almost the size of a soccer field.

  • Players will collide with a huge simulation screen that is more than 20 times larger than a standard golf simulator from real grass teeboxes, fairway surfaces and rough sand.

  • High-tech focused Green includes a Jack who changes the slope to create a variety of plays on every TGL hole.

  • Each hole is worth one point. If two teams are tied up at the end of regulations, overtime determines the winner.

  • Overtime: Overtime in TGL is similar to a soccer penalty shootout. The golfer faces off from the head until the team successfully gets two shots that get closer to the pin than their competitors.

  • Shot Clock: Each match features a shot clock that displays a 40-second countdown. Players must hit shots within their assigned time frame. Or the team will receive a shot clock violation and receive a one-stroke penalty.

  • The 40-second time frame is based on USGA’s recommendations for Pace of Play.

  • Timeouts: Each team has four timeouts per match, and two timeouts for each of the two sessions. Unused timeouts during the first session will not be carried over to the second session. For teams playing shots, the timeout may be called at any time until the shot clock expires. The opposing team can call a timeout until a player from another team handles the ball. Teams cannot call back-to-back timeouts during the current shot.

  • Judgment: The judges are on a course for implementing TGL rules and regulations, with another formula monitoring actions from the booth.

  • All golfers wear microphones during games to bring fans closer to the action.

Each TGL event complements the PGA Tour schedule as part of a partnership between the league and the tour. The weekly matches lead to the playoffs, and in the end, one team wins the Sophie Cup to the top.

What is the TGL point system?

Like the NHL, the TGL uses a point-based system for regular season matches. Each match allows teams to score up to 2 points towards regular season totals. That sum determines their position in the Sophie Cup rankings.

Both a regulation victory and an overtime victory equal two points, while the overtime loss equals one point.

The top four teams will advance to the playoffs. The playoffs include a single elimination semi-final round and three championship series.

Who will be competing in the TGL?

Six teams representing six cities will face each season in direct competitions. This is the team:
