The New York Knicks are looking at a fresh start after making the decision to fire Tom Thibodeau’s head coach.
Newstom Thibodeau, a bomb fired by the New York Knicks, appeared on June 3, just days after the elimination of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Knicks returned to the ECF for the first time in 25 years, but a 4-2 series loss to the Indiana Pacers was considered an unbearable defeat.
Aside from the first statement, there is silence from the Knicks over the decision, with Stephen A. Smith pleading for the franchise leaders to come out and address the media.
This has not happened yet, and has come to theorize to others why Thibodeau was fired without any clear reasons provided by either President Leon Rose or owner James Dolan.
The New York Knicks players held exit interviews following their defeat to the Indiana Pacers, informing them of the year’s closure.
But in the sudden new lens of Tom Thibodeau’s firing, there was one detail that is now cited as singular.
Athletic Knicks expert James Edwards spoke to the rich Eisenshaw about the shooting and looked at the actions of owner James Dolan.
Edwards said:
“I’ve been covering the NBA for seven years, and this was my eighth season. I’ve never heard of the owner sitting in an exit meeting with the players.
“And obviously they appreciate the coaches and things like that. But it was very unique.”
Edwards went on to say he had tribute to Tom Thibodeau, and he deserves credit for taking Knicks as much as he did.
He said, referring to the Karl Anthony Towns Trade: “Tives has been there for a long time. He’s the best coach for a quarter century.
“To be fair to him, this roster was put together a few hours before we started training camp, but they were still here.”
Neither Dolan nor Leon Rose argues responsibility for the decision to fire Tom Thibodeau, and is open to speculation, the driving force behind it.
Dolan’s presence in the Exit interview shows his ongoing desire to be “inserted” by the Knicks, and has not taken a full step and kept him in Rose’s hands.
According to Shams Charania, the decision stems from a joint venture.
He states: “As soon as the season ended, they began meetings internally, and James Dolan and Leon Rose believed that the best path for this team to take the next step to win the championship was a new voice.
“Leon Rose and James Dolan came this morning to decide that they would say goodbye to Tom Thibodeau.”
Dolan’s presence in the team’s exit interview shows how closely the players were listening to what they were saying when they built up the photos of the season.
And it seems he’s heard enough to be certain that Tom Thibodeau’s looming decision would require a fresh leader for this team.
