Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd shares his feelings about playing Luka Donsic.
After nearly seven seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, Luka Donsic was essentially backed by top brass when he was traded with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Although Doncic took a little time to adjust to life in LA, the 5X NBA All-Star is now dominated by the floor along with the Lakers.
They will face off against the next Mavericks as the Lakers fight to score the third seed in the Western Conference. All eyes are in Luka as it will be his first game in Dallas since the infamous trade.
Mavs head coach Jason Kidd had the opportunity to coach Doncic for nearly four seasons. During the process, the duo appeared in their first NBA Finals since 2011.
Since the trade, Donsic has maintained his distance from Kidd as he suspects that the MAVS head coach knew the move, but has chosen to remain silent and retain ownership.
Donsic and Kid are facing each other for the first time in Dallas. Prior to the much-anticipated matchup, Kid only praised the Slovenian superstar.
“He plays incredibly, but that’s Luka. Luka is one of the best players in the world. You have to be able to show a different defense (it’s even more difficult because it keeps him in check,” Kidd said.
“If we see what he’s doing, he shoots three, reaches the rim and the free throw line and sets up a table for his teammates. Our defense will be tested on the night (Wednesday),” he added.
Doncic is one of the best players in the NBA. In other words, he has a lot of skills in his bag. But what is the most dangerous aspect of the game of Doncic?
Kid replied: “They are all dangerous. That’s what makes him one of the best players in the world. Looking at his ability to find his players, score and set the tone, he has an advantage, especially when he dances with him.
“For us, we have to try and tough it out on him and compete with him knowing he’s going to score. Again, he’s playing at a high level,” concluded Coach Kidd.
On his previous outing against the Mavericks, Doncic finished the game with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists.
With Luka gelling more than ever with his Lakers teammate, fans are hoping the 26-year-old will be out on a major scoring night.
