The New York Knicks appear to keep potential free agents in the loop for head coach hunting.
The New York Knicks were a team that fell completely into controversy last month. After firing Tom Thibodeau, the Knicks actively pursued several head coaches.
Unfortunately, the Knicks were turned down by several teams when they reached out to interview the coach.
Since then, the Knicks have identified Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins as potential head coach candidates to take on the role.
In the weeks since the report was released, the Knicks interviewed both candidates along with South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley.
However, Brown emerged as the Knicks front runner. And this appears to be a message the franchise is sharing with potential free agents.
According to Mark Stein, the New York Knicks have decided on their next head coach.
So they are telling future free agents that they are approaching completing a new head coach in the coming weeks.
“The Knicks are telling future free agents that they are approaching a resolution on their coaching search.”
Given the recent updates, this may mean he has gotten a job as to Mike Brown as the frontrunner who will become the New York Knicks’ next head coach.
However, given the madness that has continued in the NBA over the past few weeks, we still can’t rule out the possibility.
So far, New York Knicks hasn’t made a big splash with free agents. Given the limited cap space and flexibility, that shouldn’t be a surprise.
But one area they prioritized was bench scoring. They complete their acquisition with the Utah Jazz and clear the exemption and sign Jordan Clarkson.
And yesterday, the Knicks completed a great free agent signing and landed Guerschon Yabusele on a two-year, $12 million contract.
Clearly, Leon Rose understands the importance of having bench depth in the NBA. Jalen Brunson’s offensive load has been reduced slightly, allowing him to play at even higher levels next season.
It will be interesting to see how new head coach Mike Brown uses these players. I hope the Knicks have approved these signings with the next head coach.
