Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has strongly criticized his former club’s transfer business.
The Red Devils have come under scrutiny for the signings they have made in recent history.
The likes of Jadon Sancho, Anthony and Andre Onana all failed at Old Trafford after spending big money to join the club.
The list goes on, but these are just a few examples of how the poor recruiting approach the Red Devils have taken has been a major negative for the Red Devils.
Manchester United have been criticized for poor decisions
Another surprising transfer move that United made was the signing of young striker Rasmus Højlund, who was first brought in to lead the club’s attack and then sold this summer, given that he was not given a proper opportunity to develop at the club.
Benjamin Sesco was signed this summer to replace Hojlund at the club, but he is of the same age and, like Hojlund, is unproven at the top level.
The decision came as a surprise to Scholes, who did not hesitate to discuss Man United’s transfer talks on his podcast.
“Look, Rasmus Heilund is 22 years old, and he came when he was 20.” Scholes said on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast:
“Being a centre-forward at Manchester United, everything was on him, the pressure was on him and he couldn’t cope with it. He should be in and out of the team. There should be three or four centre-forwards there.
“What are they going to do this summer?” They let him go and bought another one, very similar, exactly the same. 22 years old. He’s started well and seems to be getting better. But where is that common sense?
Paul Scholes’ analysis is spot on.
Manager Scholes had hoped that a player like Hojlund would not come to the club to become the focal point of the attack. However, he believes Hojlund should have been eased up and kept in the side due to his age and lack of experience.
In this case, it’s important to have a big team and United didn’t have that. Their long-standing plan was terrible, but it’s now starting to become clear.
At the moment, their main strikers are Sesco and Joshua Zirkzee, neither of whom have a proven track record at the top level.
Their goaltenders are Altai Bindir and Senne Ramens, but both have a long way to go before they become finished products.
Two important positions are occupied by players who have not yet proven themselves. No wonder Mr. Scholes would ask such a question.
