The Wizard of Washington began a new chapter under the direction of Brian Keefe.
Following the exit of John Wall and Bradley Beale, the Washington Wizards entered a new era essentially to rebuild from scratch.
Initially, the franchise went on to work with the duo Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole under the leadership of head coach Wes Unseld.
The front office ended its experiment with Unseld’s firing during the 2023-24 season. Instead, they now turn to Brian Keefe to coach the roster.
Following his four-year NCAA career, Keefe was unable to find a spot as a player on the NBA team. However, he finally got a breakthrough in 2009.
how? By joining the Oklahoma City Thunder as an assistant coach. Keefe remained at OKC until the end of the 2013-14 season.
He later joined the New York Knicks as an assistant coach. This time, Keefe only stayed at the Eastern Conference for two seasons before moving on to the Western Conference.
Keefe signed with the Los Angeles Lakers as assistant/player development coach in 2016. However, during the final season, Keefe gave up his player development duties.
Following the Lakers exit, Keefe had a short stint in the Thunder and Brooklyn net. He eventually joined the Wizard as an assistant coach ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Keefe was promoted to head coach in his first year in Washington as the Wizard fired Unseld.
Under Coach Keefe, the Wizard ran devastatingly, dropping to an 8-31 record in 39 games. Ultimately it was the Wizards’ worst season in franchise history, ending with a 15-67 record.
Fans were expecting better from manager Keefe and Co. during the 2024-25 season, but Wizard was the last in the meeting with a record of 18-64.
So far, the organization has gone 26-95 under coach Keefe. Only time can be seen.
