The Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs locked the horn as part of the 2025 California Classic Summer League.
It’s time to test the depth of the roster by playing players who haven’t yet found a spot on the main roster for both the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs.
Speaking of matchups, the Heat registered an 82-69 victory, dominating with Western Conference rivals.
One of the players who stood out on the first day of the Heat’s summer league was 26-year-old Elix Stevenson. But who is Stephenson? Let’s look into it.
Stevenson originally declared the name of the 2023 NBA Draft, but even after spending five seasons in the NCAA, the team didn’t choose him.
Speaking of which, the 6’4” guard, weighing 205 pounds, enjoyed some great spells in the NCAA. Over five seasons, he has increased 10.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 159 games.
| statistics | New students | Second grade | Junior (2020-21) | Junior (2021-22) | Senior |
| point | 6.5 ppg | 11.1 ppg | 9.3 ppg | 11.6 ppg | 15.4 ppg |
| rebound | 3.7 RPG | 4.7 RPG | 3.6 RPG | 4.7 RPG | 3.4 RPG |
| assist | 2.1 APG | 2.3 APG | 2.1 APG | 2.8 APG | 2.5 APG |
Stevenson’s numbers are decent for role players, but he struggled to shoot efficiently during his college career, shooting just 37.9% off the field and 32.3% off the 3-point line.
After being undrafted, Stephenson spent two years in the G-League, averaging 12.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while shooting 42.5% from the field and 34.5% from the deep.
Returning to Stevenson’s California Classic Summer League debut, he played 23 minutes against the Spurs.
In these limited minutes, Stephenson increased 16 points, five rebounds and three assists on a 13-point heat.
The 26-year-old security guard shot an astounding 4-6 from the field, including a perfect 4-4 from the three-point line.
Furthermore, he was second only to Kel’el Ware when it came to scoring in the game. It’s still too early to make a decisive verdict at Stevenson, but if he can continue playing at this level he will likely impress the heat coaching staff.
What will be there after that? Well, the two-way contract would be better for Stephenson at this point in his career.
